Benign Vestibular Schwannoma: a Rare Cause of Nonaneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
نویسندگان
چکیده
Subarachnoid Hemorrhage (SAH) is most commonly caused by trauma, aneurysms, other vascular lesions, and infrequently malignant tumors such as gliomas or metastasis; however, benign intracranial tumors such as meningiomas or schwannomas are an uncommon cause. Vestibular schwannomas, accounting for approximately 8% of all intracranial tumors and 80% of Cerebellopontine Angle (CPA) neoplasms are typified by slow growth and slowly progressive symptomatic presentation such as unilateral hearing loss, or imbalance. Acute presentation of vestibular schawannoma is extremely uncommon and may be associated with Intratumoral Hemorrhage (ITH) or SAH. Here we present a case of a previously asymptomatic gentleman presenting in a manner consistent with SAH, ultimately caused by a benign vestibular schwannoma.

Diffuse vasospasm after pretruncal nonaneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage.
Pretruncal (perimesencephalic) nonaneurysmal hemorrhage is a benign form of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Angiographic changes of vasospasm are uncommon in patients with this type of hemorrhage, and if vasospasm is present, it is mild and focal. We report two patients with pretruncal nonaneurysmal SAH who developed severe and diffuse vasospasm, expanding the clinical spectrum of this type of S...
متن کاملImaging of neurologic disorders associated with pregnancy and the postpartum period.
Diverse pathologic conditions affect the central nervous system (CNS) and pituitary gland during pregnancy and the puerperium. Some are specific to the physiologic process of reproduction (eg, eclampsia, postpartum cerebral angiopathy, Sheehan syndrome, lymphocytic adenohypophysitis). Others are nonspecific but occur more often in pregnant women (eg, cerebral infarction, dural venous thrombosis...
متن کاملMR Imaging in Pretruncal Nonaneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
Background and Purpose—The cause of pretruncal (perimesencephalic) nonaneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage is not known. MRI of the brain or spine is often performed to exclude any other vascular abnormalities. Its diagnostic value is not known. Methods—We used MR imaging of the brain with routine sequences, gadolinium enhancement, and additional thin T1-weighted axial sections following a triple...
متن کاملSubarachnoid hemorrhage of unknown etiology along the cortical convexity.
BACKGROUND Only 8% to 22% of cases of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) are of nonaneurysmal origin. Among these, perimesencephalic nonaneurysmal SAH is a distinct clinical and radiologic entity with normal angiographic findings and a good prognosis. In contrast, SAH of nonaneurysmal origin occurring along the cortical convexity is rare and poorly understood. We report 2 cases of subarachnoid hemor...
متن کاملNonaneurysmal perimesencephalic subarachnoid hemorrhage: CT and MR patterns that differ from aneurysmal rupture.
We describe a characteristic distribution of cisternal blood in 52 patients with nonaneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage proved by a normal angiogram. On CT, the center of the bleeding was located immediately anterior to the brainstem in all patients, which was confirmed in four patients who were studied with MR imaging. Extension to the ambient cisterns or to the basal parts of the sylvian fissu...
